Bustin’ the Grass Festival

DKRI-DKA invite the local com­mu­ni­ty to a FREE buf­fel-bust­ing event at the Desert Knowl­edge Precinct that promis­es to be phys­i­cal, edu­ca­tion­al, and loads of fun!

We’ve invit­ed local buf­fel­grass experts to join our Dis­cus­sion Panel from 10am-11am in pre­sent­ing a range of per­spec­tives on buf­fel­grass, its intro­duc­tion, how it is chang­ing our desert ecol­o­gy, the fire threat to Indige­nous cul­tur­al prac­tis­es, and oth­er indi­rect impacts on our com­mu­ni­ty’s well­be­ing.
Also, there’ll also be loads of prac­ti­cal advice, such as:

  • how to iden­ti­fy buf­fel­grass from native grasses
  • demon­stra­tions of best-prac­tise removal, fre­quen­cy, tim­ing, and dis­pos­al methods
  • which native plants to use to regen­er­ate your bust­ed buf­fel patch

For those who want to per­fect their buf­fel-bustin’ tech­nique, hone the mus­cles, bust a move, or just get buff (!), sign up for the Buffest Bustin’ Cham­pi­onships — our just-for-fun take on the log-chop­ping con­tests of yes­ter­year! Get a team of 3 togeth­er or bust out solo to com­pete for prizes, or for ULTI­MATE CHAM­PI­ON and the per­pet­u­al Gold­en Hoe Award!

Reg­is­tra­tions for the Buffest Bustin’ Cham­pi­onships open at 9.30am on the day. Comp gets under­way at 11.30am.

DKA will also be launch­ing its Desert Knowl­edge Land­care Group to focus con­ser­va­tion efforts on the many cul­tur­al­ly sig­nif­i­cant sites, cork­wood trees and iron­wood trees, locat­ed at the Precinct. Or join a local Land­care Group near you!
