DKA Welcomes Jamie Toyne

Dec 03, 2020

Services:

DKA is pleased to have Alice Springs local Jamie Toyne join our team as Program Director / Business Coach, facilitating the new Enterprise Development program. Jamie’s role is to research and co-design an economic development program alongside community members and leaders.

The Enterprise Development program aims to accelerate the development of First Nations enterprises and industries by creating economic opportunities and providing network support to emerging entrepreneurs, business owners, communities, NGOs, and the private and public sector.

Jamie is the Founder and former CEO of international business consulting group Dealflow Brokerage. He started Dealflow whilst living in San Francisco to help entrepreneurs start, develop, grow and exit their businesses. Dealflow has worked with entrepreneurs in more than 40 countries and now has satellite offices in Australia, Thailand, Philippines, Sweden, and several locations throughout North America.

Upon returning home to Mparntwe after 13 years abroad, Jamie worked with Children’s Ground (a First Nations-led organisation) as their Social Enterprise & Business Development Officer. Jamie was responsible for supporting the development of Indigenous social enterprises in Central Australia, and helping the organisation develop sustainable self-generated income streams. Jamie has also been working with Akeyulerre (an Indigenous health, healing and culture centre) to facilitate the development of their emerging tourism enterprise.

Jamie says, I am really enjoying the challenge of adapting my experience to the central deserts. I am learning a lot here, and am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the community where I grew up. It’s really important for me to understand the barriers and the opportunities that are unique to this region, so I’m trying to sit down with as many people as I can to listen and learn.”

Whilst studying business entrepreneurship at RMIT, Jamie consulted large retailers on their e‑commerce strategy and worked with an IT consulting company to pilot a green energy technology in partnership with solar providers. Upon graduating, Jamie was hired by a Melbourne-based tech start-up called Flippa Inc. (the world’s first online marketplace for buying and selling internet businesses and digital assets) to pilot a new income stream for the company. When the pilot was determined a success, Jamie was relocated to San Francisco, where he was responsible for setting up Flippa’s first overseas office, building a team of 20 experts and establishing a presence in Silicon Valley and North America.

More recently, Jamie has published dozens of articles and developed several software products to help emerging entrepreneurs and established business owners address the myriad challenges during the different stages of development. Jamie’s detailed professional background can be accessed on LinkedIn.
