The 2026 Central Australian Heat Resilience Summit is a one-day forum bringing together local governments, Aboriginal organisations, Territory and Commonwealth agencies, researchers, service providers, and community leaders to address one of the region’s most pressing climate challenges: extreme heat.
Central Australia is experiencing hotter, longer, and more frequent heat events, placing increasing pressure on community health, infrastructure, essential services, and regional liveability. Alice Springs has recorded its three hottest Januarys in the past seven years, reflecting a long-term warming trend that is projected to intensify in coming decades.
The Summit will provide a platform to share evidence, local knowledge, and practical responses to extreme heat, while building partnerships across sectors and communities. It will serve as the first step in developing a coordinated, regionally-led Heat Management Strategy for Alice Springs and Central Australia.
Aligned with national climate adaptation priorities, the Summit will focus on strengthening heat resilience, reducing risk, and supporting long-term community wellbeing in a hotter future.
