Dawn Ross was born in Alice Springs of Arrernte/Kaytetye decent. Married with 4 children and 5 grandchildren.
She attended school in Alice Springs and worked in various Aboriginal organisations around Alice Springs and received a Bachelor of Arts at University of South Australia.
Dawn was employed by Batchelor Institute from 2003. She initially worked in Student Services as Student Support Officer until 2009 and then won a position in the Faculty of Health Business and Science as the Family Wellbeing Coordinator/Lecturer from 2009 to 2018 Lecturing and assessing students from urban and remote, travelling to remote areas in the NT. Dawn is passionate about sharing and developing knowledge and skills in this area.
Dawn also worked at Central Australian Aboriginal Congress in Link-Up searching for families for Stolen Generation in 2019. Recently retired Lecturer in Health with Flinders University in College of Medicine and Public Health working there for 2 years. Working in both Aboriginal Health and Education. Engaging with local, national, remote, Aboriginal and NGO’s, Drug and Alcohol program unit (BRADAAG) and NT Corrections Alice Springs and Darwin. She also worked in collaboration with TAFE SA in the training of staff in the Family Wellbeing skill sets.
Dawn was heavily involved in the delivery (and participation) of the FaHCSIA Indigenous Women’s leadership Program that was provided to many Aboriginal women nationally to develop skills in leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Arts (Aboriginal Studies) from the University of SA 2001.
- Certificate II in Indigenous Leadership through the Australian Indigenous Leadership Centre.
- Certificate 2 and 3 in Family Wellbeing, TafeSA.
- Certificate IV in TAE (updating in the process)
